Design beautiful, symmetrical paper cut-outs by drawing on the folded wedge.
Ready to draw your cut pattern!
Web-App Overview
The Symmetry Cut Simulator provides an interactive way to understand the principles of paper cutting and **N-fold radial symmetry**. The canvas represents a piece of square paper folded repeatedly into a single triangular wedge or "slice." Any line you "cut" (draw) on this wedge is rotated and mirrored, creating an N-fold symmetrical pattern when unfolded. This tool encourages spatial reasoning and artistic exploration.
How to Use
Draw/Cut: Use your mouse, touch screen, or trackpad to draw a continuous line on the highlighted triangular wedge. You can lift your pen/mouse and start a **new, separate cut**.
Undo: Click the **Undo** button or press Z to remove the last cut stroke you completed.
Symmetry Control: Use the **"Symmetry Fold Count" slider** to select the number of folds, from 2 (simple mirror) to 10 (complex rosette). Changing this resets the canvas.
Keyboard Controls:
Enter: Press to trigger the "Unfold & Reveal" action.
C: Press to "Clear" all cuts.
Z: Press to "Undo" the last cut.
Unfold & Reveal: Click the button or press Enter to see the final, symmetrical design that results from your cut.
Sound Toggle: Control the sonification (a subtle 'snip' sound when a cut is recorded).
Play Demo: Watch an automated sequence of predefined patterns unfold, demonstrating different symmetry levels.
Future Directions
Future enhancements could include implementing options to save and share user-created patterns, adding different paper colors, and exploring a mode where the drawing automatically snaps to the boundaries of the wedge to simulate realistic cutting with scissors.
