Dynamic Multi-User Rooms & Zero-Isolation Co-Regulation
A critical limitation of traditional 1-on-1 random video chat protocols is the isolation bottleneck: whenever an odd number of participants enter the matchmaking queue, at least one individual is left stranded in an empty lobby. In this laboratory, we introduce Dynamic Multi-Peer Mesh Rooms ($2\text{--}5$ participants per room) governed by a Zero-Isolation Partitioning Algorithm.
Every integer of online participants $N \ge 2$ can be dynamically partitioned into subsets of size $\{2, 3, 4, 5\}$ such that no participant remains alone:
- $N = 2$: A single dyadic co-regulation room of 2 users.
- $N = 3$: The 3rd user immediately joins the existing room (size 3) instead of waiting alone.
- $N = 4$: An integrated group of 4 in direct peer-to-peer mesh.
- $N = 5$: Full room capacity (5 participants in full WebRTC mesh).
- $N = 6$: Dynamically partitioned into two rooms of $3 + 3$, preventing any single user from remaining stranded.
- $N = 11$: Rebalanced into $4 + 4 + 3$, ensuring balanced conversational symmetry.
🔒 EPHEMERAL PRIVACY ARCHITECTURE: All audio and video streams travel directly between client browsers via end-to-end encrypted WebRTC mesh channels (SRTP/DTLS). No video, audio, or metadata packets are recorded, stored, or routed through relay media servers.
Scientific Foundations: Interpersonal Autonomic Synchrony
Human nervous systems are evolutionarily wired for polyvagal co-regulation (Porges, 2011). Mutual gaze, micro-facial expressions, and vocal prosody stimulate the myelinated Ventral Vagal Complex, down-regulating sympathetic fight-or-flight arousal and fostering autonomic safety. When small groups converse, reciprocal feedback loops produce collective group synchrony.
Future Directions & Biophysical Research Horizons
This platform serves as an open testbed for future non-invasive physiological and neurological synchronization telemetry:
-
Multi-User Remote Photoplethysmography (rPPG): Extracting cardiac pulses optically across up to 5 simultaneous feeds using ambient facial green-channel chrominance absorption:
$$\bar{C}_g(t) = \frac{1}{|ROI|} \sum_{(x,y) \in ROI} I_g(x,y,t)$$
-
Dyadic & Group Phase-Locking Value ($PLV$): Computing instantaneous phase-coherence matrices between all $M$ peers in a room using the analytical Hilbert transform:
$$PLV_{ij} = \frac{1}{N} \left| \sum_{k=1}^{N} \exp\left(i \left[\theta_i(t_k) - \theta_j(t_k)\right]\right) \right|$$
-
Automated Acoustic Prosody & Vocal Pitch Attunement: Client-side Web Audio FFT analysis of conversational turn-taking, fundamental frequency ($F_0$) resonance, and group entrainment.
